Everything You Need to Know About High Bay Lights

High bay lighting has been a widely preferred option for business, commercial, and industrial clients across the globe over the long term, because of its compact size and high-intensity lumen output. Within the past several years, LED technology has become dominant in the high bay lights marketplace due to advancements and innovations in energy efficiency and service life. High bay lights are also considerably Upgraded with color rendering accuracy.

According to the light manufacturers, high bay lights are usually appropriate for expansive Indoor spaces, like manufacturing plants, gymnasiums, warehouses, vast retail outlets, factories, and a lot more. High bay LED lights are powerful lighting solutions, that supply the suitable brightness levels to sufficiently illuminate.

High-bay lighting fixtures are generally mounted from the ceiling via hooks, chains, or pendants. High bay lights can also be fixed to the ceiling directly similar to troffer lights.

Factors to Keep in Mind When Selecting High Bay LED Lights

Luminous Intensity –  Lumens is the measure of the amount of visible light emitted by a high bay light. Because of the wide spectrum in lumen outputs of hi-bay LED lighting compared to traditional lighting solutions, lights based on their lumen output are now standard.

Wattage – For the lighting solution domain, wattage is the standardized measurement of power consumption, often used to determine its energy efficiency. A watt is a key consideration when choosing the best high bay LED lights. Wattage can be expressed as [1W = 1V * A] where A is ampere and, V is volt.

Voltage – This is defined as the potential for energy to move similar to that of water flowing through a pipe pressured by a pump.

DLC Listed – When a high bay LED light is listed under the Design Light Consortium standard, that confirms that this high bay LED light has been certified to perform under highly efficient energy performance.

Light Color Temperature – Color temperature is measured using a Kelvin indicator on a scale ranging from 1,000K to 10,000 K. The most common color temperatures range from 3000K to 6000K, with 5000K which is the nearest equivalent to daylight. The color temperature measure is used as a way to define the hue of a light.

Color Rendering Index – Commonly referred to by the “CRI” acronym, this measurement scale is used to determine a light’s accuracy and its performance in proper color rendering, which ranges from 0 up to 100. The higher CRI of a hi-bay light offers more accuracy to illuminate its surroundings.

Standard Mounting Options of High Bay LED Lights

Surface Mount – Surface mount lights have a fixed angle bracket that brings the unit as close to the ceiling or mounting surface.

Yoke Mount Bracket – These brackets are widely favorable for UFO-style high bay lights that are mounted up for a ceiling, especially on flat surfaced lower, and sloped roofs.

Suspension Hook Mount – These require a certain degree of customization for the suspension system because high bay lights are mounted to the ceiling at a variable distance depending on the application’s needs.

V-Hooks – These standard hooks are screwed onto the fixture itself using a standard conduit-type threading, this prevents an unexpected detachment and prevents them from falling.

Rod and Plate Mount – This mount is similar to suspension mounts; this mounting system uses conduit-style rods to connect a high bay light fixture.

High Bay LED Lights Applications

LED high bay lights are the best options for indoor spaces as they offer natural light and cut down energy costs. Various industries and facilities tend to have higher ceilings that require high bay led. Some of the most common are:

  • Airports
  • Manufacturing plants
  • Factories
  • Warehouses
  • Schools & Universities
  • Community centers or recreation centers
  • Commercial applications like department stores
  • Gymnasiums
  • Garages
  • Showrooms
  • Indoor Sports Arenas

..and a lot more application areas.

Difference between Round and Linear High Bay Lights

Round High Bay Lights are also known as UFO LED lights because it has a circular light panel, and a compact driver mounted on top.

With excellent performance, heavy-duty structure, round design, and powerful beams, the round high bay LED lights are considered to be compact, robust, and resilient. UFO high bay lights are aesthetically attractive in modern applications.

The linear led high bay is a linear structured lighting module, and its light source is led. It is designed to illuminate a wide area that requires an excessive light output. The led linear high bay has a longer diode arrangement, which produces a larger beam angle. Linear LED lights are longer and wider than UFO lights and wide range of different options.
